Saving lives was all in a day’s work for Patel Elementary’s third graders.

To the operating room stat! It was all hands on deck for the third graders at Dr. Kiran C. Patel Elementary last week during the Great American Teach-In. Patient Minnie Mouse needed to have a kidney removed, and Ms. Megan Hunt’s class was ready to scrub in.

Moffitt Cancer Center’s Dr. Logan Zemp, who specializes in treating cancer in the urinary tract and male reproductive system, joined daughter Zoey and her classmates to perform a successful nephrectomy. Thanks to their quick work, Minnie is on the mend.

The OR team preps the patient to have a kidney surgically removed.
