Every day, health workers tirelessly and selflessly provide healing and care to those in need. And never has this been truer than in the past year. As we honor health care heroes during National Hospital Week, at Moffitt Cancer Center we want to say thank you to our courageous health care workers right here at home and to those around the globe.

This past year was one of unimaginable loss that challenged the global health care system in ways never before seen in modern times. Yet at Moffitt, and hospitals everywhere, we saw health care workers persevere and continue fighting and advocating for their patients and the wellbeing of all. We celebrate the heroes who selflessly cared for others even when that meant putting their own health at risk. We also celebrate the scientists and researchers who made breakthroughs and improved therapy and treatment options, bringing us closer to an end of this pandemic.

At Moffitt, through it all we remained steadfast in our mission. More than 45,000 Floridians and 600,000 Americans die from cancer each year, and we knew cancer would not stop for COVID-19. Together, our team members across every role and department at the cancer center worked relentlessly to ensure that lifesaving cancer care and research continued without interruption for our patients.

It is this commitment and perseverance that we honor this week. Thank for your compassion and for bringing hope to so many. To health care workers everywhere, thank you for all you do.

Thank you,

Dr. Patrick Hwu
