Moffitt team members holding Business of Pride Awards

For the second consecutive year, the Tampa Bay Business Journal recognized Moffitt Cancer Center as a Business of Pride. The newspaper celebrated local businesses and individuals in Tampa Bay for their ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion with regards to LGBTQ+ inclusive policies.

Additionally, Cathy Grant, senior director of Moffitt Diversity, was honored individually as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community during the ceremony held at the Palladium Theater in downtown St. Petersburg on June 18.

“Moffitt has policies in place that protect the sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression rights for our team member and patients,” Grant said. “This has led to the cancer center being designated by the Human Rights Campaign’s - Healthcare Equality Index as a Leader in LGBTQ healthcare equality for the last eight years.”

Grant also pointed to the cancer center’s support of an LGBTQ+ team member group, Unity@Moffitt, which provides a safe space and educational opportunities for team members throughout the cancer center.

Community involvement is also a strength of Moffitt’s, Grant explained.

“We continue to support sponsorships in the community, including Tampa Pride, St. Pete Pride, the Diversity Chamber of Commerce and Equality Florida,” Grant said. “Moffitt’s investment in diversity and inclusion truly demonstrates the desire for all of our communities to benefit from the cancer center’s mission - the prevention and cure of cancer.”

The annual Business of Pride recognition coincides with national LGBTQ Pride Month and the annual St. Pete Pride celebration. This year, Moffitt’s participation will include a booth at the street festival on Central Avenue on Sunday, June 24.

All of the honorees will be featured in this week’s issue of the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
