Skate-A-Thon Raises $14,000 to Support Patients, Research at Moffitt
It was a dream come true for local hockey fans. On Feb. 25, hundreds of supporters took to the ice at Amalie Arena to skate for a cause at the 2024 Moffitt Skate-A-Thon. The event helped raise more than $14,000 for patient services and cancer research at Moffitt Cancer Center.
“How often do you get a chance to skate where the three-time Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning compete?” said Merritt Martin, vice president of Public Affairs and Strategic Communications for Moffitt.
This was the first time the Skate-A-Thon was hosted since before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The community was eager to rally behind the event in support of a great cause.
Participants had an opportunity to meet Lightning alum Adam Hall and pose for photos with team mascot ThunderBug. From first time skaters to seasoned veterans, everyone enjoyed a fun-filled day at the arena as they stepped on the ice to raise awareness for Moffitt’s mission to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.
