Showcasing Moffitt’s Extraordinary Science

Once a year, scientists from all over the world come together to highlight the latest discoveries across the spectrum of cancer research. Their venue — the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting. Highlights cover everything from population science and cancer prevention, to basic science and cancer biology, translational science and clinical trials, and survivorship and advocacy. The science being done to advance cancer research, treatment and prevention takes center stage.

This year’s meeting, like many others in the health care and science communities, moved to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also split into two parts. Virtual meeting I, held in April, focused on clinical trials through more than 225 presentations. Virtual meeting II, June 22-24, will share the latest developments in tumor biology and genetics, early detection, precision oncology and cancer immunotherapies. There will be thousands of presentations including 70 educational sessions and workshops.

Moffitt Cancer Center has more than 60 presentations during this year’s AACR Annual Meeting. Most will take place during virtual meeting II. The studies cover a variety of science including developing and expanding immunotherapy to new cancers, identifying genes and other markers that drive cancer growth and metastasis, using artificial intelligence to improve cancer diagnosis and improving side effects and quality of life following cancer treatment.
