Bob Graham, former Florida governor and U.S. senator, died Tuesday. He was 87.

“We are deeply saddened to report the passing of a visionary leader, dedicated public servant, and even more importantly, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather: Bob Graham,” his daughter Gwen Graham shared on social media.

With a career spanning five decades, many know him for his political prominence and devotion to the people of Florida. As Florida’s 38th governor, Graham signed a bill into law establishing Moffitt Cancer Center. He was there in 1983 to celebrate the groundbreaking of the hospital. He also served on Moffitt’s Board of Advisors for 17 years, upholding a dedication to advancing cancer research and improving care for all Floridians.

Graham served two terms as governor, 1979-1987, and three terms in the Senate, 1987-2005.

He was known for his more than 400 “work days” where he rolled up his sleeves for jobs such as  construction, farming and hospitality.

He is survived by his wife, Adele, their four daughters and 10 grandchildren.
