For a lot of cancer patients, lack of transportation is one of the biggest roadblocks to receiving care.

Lyft and the American Cancer Society have teamed up to help patients with transportation challenges. The Road to Recovery Program provides free rides to and from treatment for people with cancer who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves.

The program is up and running in Las Vegas and Miami and is set to expand to other cities across the country like Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Atlanta.

It’s not currently available in the Tampa area, but the program could get the green light in the future.

“Moffitt continuously explores new resources and organizations that will benefit its patients,” said Sean Powell, director of Social Work and Patient and Family Services at Moffitt.  “Moffitt is excited to learn about the American Cancer Society’s partnership with Lyft. We hope they will bring this service to the Tampa area in the near future.”
