Hundreds of physicians and researchers were in Orlando last week for the Tandem Meetings. This meeting is a joint effort of the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) and the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research. Physicians and researchers from around the world come together to present the latest research in hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy, but this meeting is for more than just scientists and doctors. Administrators, data managers, laboratory technicians, nurses, pharmacists and other allied health professionals also attend and share data.

Moffitt Cancer Center had more than 25 presentations during the five-day meeting that covered everything from clinical trials for CAR T-cell therapy to the use of essential oils to battle nausea in transplant patients. We also celebrated two award recipients. Wendy Warrell, assistant patient care manager in Moffitt’s Blood and Marrow Transplantation clinic, received an ASTCT nursing award. And Anthony Wood, a fellow in the Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Immunotherapy Program, received the 2022 Robert Korngold Award for Best Clinical Science in Cellular Therapy article from the editors of the ASTCT journal.
