The Moffitt Medical Minute is a weekly video series featuring Moffitt Cancer Center President and CEO Dr. Patrick Hwu. He takes complex or confusing medical and scientific topics and breaks them down in just 60 seconds.

Our immune system acts as an incredible defense against invading viruses and bacteria. However, these immune soldiers, including T-cells, can also be dangerous to our normal tissues, so we have evolved a number of ways to put brakes on these cells. Anti-PD-1 therapies don't work to kill cancer cells directly, but block the pathways which shield cancer cells from the immune system's soldiers.

Check out this episode of the Moffitt Medical Minute to learn more about how these therapies work.
